The Issue

Customer was a fast growing online food business that over the course of 4 years had to increase their warehousing 3 times to accommodate growing stock and packaging requirements. They did this by taking on neighbouring vacant units. The incumbent corrugated supplier was supplying approx. 100 pallets of cartons twice per month, which were stored on-site. In addition to this they had to pay for full and expensive vehicle loads, tying up much needed cash-flow.

The Solution

Antalis Packaging were able to redesign the carton using a specialist board grade that meant they were able to offer a cost neutral price of the cartons whilst improving the look of the packaging, which helped to boost customer experience and brand reputation.

In addition to this, Antalis Packaging also offered to stock hold in a local distribution warehouse, with the option of allowing the customer to call off stock upon request. The customer started taking stock deliveries on average every second day during standard trading, increasing to daily deliveries during peak times. This additional service gave the customer several improvements over their existing method.

The main benefit was that this enabled the customer to downsize the warehouse, reducing size by 20% and saving approx. £30k per annum on rental costs alone.

Another benefit was that because Antalis Packaging only invoiced upon delivery it freed up cash-flow. This allowed the customer to spend funds on other areas within the business, such as marketing, which has ultimately helped the customer to grow.

Another benefit is that this also reduced “double-handling” of product as stock did not need to be put away onto storage racking, only to be picked again later for use. Cartons are now delivered in the morning and used throughout the same day.

The Advantages

Reduction in warehousing costs
More efficient stock handling
Better reaction to sales fluctuations
More efficient stock handling
Better cash flow
Reduced warehouse energy usage.
